XX wieku. Paul Feyerabend (19241994), austriacko-amerykański intelektualista o barwnym życiorysie i nie mniej barwnych poglądach, należy obok T.S. Kuhna czy I. Lakatosa do grupy myślicieli, którzy w tamtym okresie inaczej spojrzeli na rozwój nauki. Zakwestionowali jej liniowo-logiczno-racjonalną ewolucję na rzecz historycznego procesu zmiany formacji nie zawsze współmiernych. W niniejszej książce Feyerabend występuje przeciw metodzie naukowej jako takiej i opowiada się za anarchistycznym podejściem do teorii naukowych, które wyraża słynna formuła anything goes, co oznacza tu wszystko się nada. Formuła ta ma ścisły metametodyczny sens: chodzi o takie kontrindukcyjne testowanie teorii innymi, czasem przeciwstawnymi rozwiązaniami, że teoria albo się obroni przed nimi, albo upadnie.
