Pierwotnie album miał przedstawiać najazd hord mongolskich na Polskę z wielką bitwą wojsk pod dowództwem Henryka II Pobożnego pod Legnicą (1241 rok) na zakończenie. Ale kiedy Papcio szukał materiałów historycznych do scenariusza, zorientował się, że na większości ilustracji musiałby pokazać sceny walk i rzezie wojowników, a rysunki przesycone byłyby krwią rannych i zabitych. Nie podjął się rysowania takich obrazów, nie chciał też malować wesołego Tytusa na tle krwawych i okrutnych scen. Dlatego zastąpił wojenny scenariusz kupiecką wędrówkę chłopców JEDWABNYM SZLAKIEM.

Są tu też barbarzyńscy Tatarzy i Mongołowie, jest dużo historii, ale nie ma krwawych scen. Jak zwykle u Papcia, nie zabrakło sytuacji niemożliwych. Ale cóż licentia poetica. NIEPRAWDZIWE, ALE ŚMIESZNE!
